My own special vocabulary page

These are in no particular order, and are probably only useful to me. I just felt a sudden need to keep track of all the words I have taken to using regularly, here, and in my life.

Flip-ees: students who are in my flipped class

Flip-age: how long I've been flipping, or more recently, the phase of maturation/complexity/goodness I'm in

Flip-o-graphic: A graphic representation of the flipped class

Hint-troduction: An introductory activity that immediately precedes a class activity, during which time just enough info is hinted/imparted/reminded/reinforced to the flipees (see above), so that once they are in the actual class activity, they will hit the ground running.

Explainaholic: An unfortunate person who is gifted at communication but who is also so addicted to explaining things she must constantly restrain herself. Okay it's me.

Logtastic, logerrific, logalicious: adjectives to attach positive vibes to anything that pertains to logarithms

Logatory(noun) The mindspace in which my students find themselves 3 weeks into the logarithm unit. Characterized by expletives such as "Wait-what's a log again?", "I don't understand anything!", "What's an exponent again?", "Who are you again?", and the ever-popular "That's it. I'm going into the arts."

Logtopia: The opposite of logatory (see above). Few people reach this place. Most enter logatory and are never heard from again.

Squequals: the squiggly equals sign, which means "is approximately equal to"

McGoldtrick, McGoldtip: a trick or a tip I use and pass on to my students to make their math lives easier

Tulip: one cycle of a cosine wave
Snake: one cycle of a sine wave
Umbrella: one cycle of a cosine wave that has been flipped vertically
Sneg: one cycle of a sine wave that has been flipped vertically

Root-2'd: Multiplied by root 2

TBS, or The Big Seventeen: The special angles on the unit circle for which exact values of their cos and sin ratios are known, that is: 0π, π/6. π/4, π/3, π/2, 2π/3, 3π/4, 5π/6, π, 7π/6, 5π/4, 4π/3, 3π/2, 5π/3, 7π/4, 11π/6, & 2π. I know, I include both 0π and 2π in there even though they're coterminal.
